Local Scams - Nov 06
We've been alerted to the following scam by a BRA member. This scam has
apparently been confirmed by Royal Mail and is especially relevant as Christmas
is fast approaching:
A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery
Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you
need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number).
DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize. If you
call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have
been billed £15 for the phone call. If you do receive a card with these details,
then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 0207 2396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate
service regulator) at www.icstis.org.uk,
or your local trading standards office.
Another one concerned fake designer suits, also reported by a member, as
follows:
A guy pulled up in his car yesterday asking for directions to Heathrow Airport.
He didn't seem to be listening that attentively to my directions, then just as
he was driving off he asked me if I liked Armani and Boss suits. He brandished
some suits in shiny suit covers with designer names printed on them.
It's definitely a scam and he wants you to think he's Italian and in the fashion
business - for some reason needing to lighten his valuable cargo of designers
suits before he jets back to Milano!
So if anyone wants a cheap fake suit - he's short, dark, wears glasses and
drives a hatchback!! :)
