Goldhawk Industrial Estate - planning decision postponed

(Posted30/7/09)

We had expected that the proposal to redevelop the Goldhawk Industrial Estate would be heard at the next Planning Applications Committee (PAC) on 5 August. A couple of days ago, however, we heard that the Environment Agency had renewed its objection to the application so that the developer, London & Newcastle, could supply more information on flooding. We're making enquiries and representations. If you would like to be on our Goldhawk emailing list for further details, just get in touch. We also have a site on Facebook - just write 'Goldhawk' in the Search box - great visuals. And on Wednesday, 5 August why not join us at the Town Hall at 7.00pm for the PAC meeting (sans the Goldhawk estate proposal)? Sooner or later developments affect us all - just as well to see Council decision-making in operation.

Goldhawk Industrial Estate, the planning committee and Patrick Clarkson QC
On 5 August, 7.00pm onwards at the Town Hall the fate of the Goldhawk Industrial Estate off Brackenbury Rd will be decided. At the Planning Applications Committee (PAC) meeting we will hear if enterprises such as Innocent Smoothies may continue, or will London and Newcastle get permission to raze the lot and cram in an office block and residential accommodation? To discover what the planning officer says in his report this coming Tuesday (28th), click on http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/Directory/Council_and_Democracy/Decisions_meetings_and_agendas/Other_Committees/68510_Other_Committees.asp . Then click on Planning Applications Committee and go to 5 August which will be highlighted by Tuesday. In there we should find the agenda and other documents, including the officer's recommendation for the Goldhawk Industrial Estate application. But it's not up to him to decide to pass or refuse the application - that's the job of councillors on the PAC.

From past experience we know that officers advise the PAC to accept an application because not to do so would invite an appeal from the developer. With this in mind residents and the Soundhouse on the estate have instructed Patrick Clarkson QC to examine the officer's report to the PAC. Mr Clarkson is a top planning barrister who acted for the Council - and won - in the Allied Carpets appeal.

Join us on 5 August at the Town Hall.

Goldhawk Industrial Estate update

Keep in touch with the Goldhawk Industrial Estate redevelopment through our regular emails. Last Saturday a Gazette photographer took our photos by the entrance to the estate (thanks to the 20 plus people who came along), a delegation is meeting Cllr Greenhalgh and our Ravenscourt Park councillors tomorrow, and on Wednesday you're invited to attend Council Questions at the Town Hall, 7.00pm in the public gallery of the Council chamber (be there at 6.45pm); three residents local to the Goldhawk estate will be asking questions. If you'd like to be added to our Goldhawk emailing list just let me know. We've also got a Goldhawk group on Facebook. Come along, see what's on offer and join up. We should have some new visuals very soon, produced for the meeting with councillors tomorrow.

Rubbish and recycling bags

From next week, the rubbish collectors will pick up orange recycling bags if easily visible from WITHIN your premises at street level. Put the bags out, say the Council, from 9.00pm the night before and before 6.00am the morning of collection. Rubbish will not be collected from basements. The contract requires the rubbish collectors to return bins to the property, with the bin lid replaced. Please report missed collections, or non bin/bin lid replacement, to cleaner.greener@lbhf.gov.uk as this will help to implement the contract effectively.

For clarification (says the Council) black bag rubbish has always been collected from frontages as well as street pavements. When the orange bag system was introduced, residents were asked to present them on the pavement to aid collection. Since all residents are now assumed to be participating, the rubbish collectors will collect from your premises.

Xmas Tree Recycling 5th - 16th Jan 09

LBHF will again be recycling Christmas trees this year and will also be collecting them from the kerbside as well as 4 designated drop off points. To see more details see the LBHF Website.

For a map of which day they will be collecting in your area click here.

Goldhawk Industrial Estate Redevelopment - Public Meeting
If you live in the vicinity of the Goldhawk Industrial Estate you may have seen a flyer pop through your letterbox just before Christmas, announcing a public meeting this coming Wednesday, 7 January.

And here are the details: Goldhawk Industrial Estate – proposed major commercial & residential development near you:

P U B L I C   M E E T I N G: Wednesday, 7 January: Brackenbury School, Dalling Road, W6

6.00pm: L
ondon and Newcastle exhibition ~ meet the developer
7.30pm Public Meeting with speakers: Angela Clarke, chair, Hammersmith Society ~ Richard Winterton, architect, Brackenbury Residents Association
Chair: Cllr Stephen Cowan

London and Newcastle proposes to redevelop the site from 11 light-industrial units to 52 dwellings and 11 commercial units. See the developer’s application HERE.

This may affect YOU if you live in -
…  BRACKENBURY ROAD or nearby - extra traffic, parking stress and noise;
…  DALLING ROAD or CRESSY COURT - loss of privacy and noise, extra traffic;
…  GOLDHAWK ROAD - security, light, intrusion and loss of privacy.
It is also concerning that the building works are so close to Brackenbury School. How, for example, to pile drive an underground carpark so that neither the school nor residents are unduly disturbed? There are security and privacy matters also.
All are welcome to the Public Meeting on 7 January - hear about this development - ask questions. Even if you think it won't affect you the ripple-out effect of increased traffic and parking demand will go much wider than the immediate area.

We've started a group on Facebook. Called Goldhawk Industrial Estate Redevelopment Ha! it's at
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=42160945966&ref=nf. Y
ou don't have to be signed up to Facebook to see it, but if you want to contribute it's easy to do. Why not click through and have a look at comments made by residents, photographs of the estate, mock-up of the 4-storey block as seen from Goldhawk Road and an architect's drawing of the proposed housing as viewed from Dalling Rd. Also a pic of the site for four proposed 'mews houses' on Vinery Way - thus creating the perfect bottleneck along the service road.

Goldhawk Industrial Estate - Public Meeting
London and Newcastle proposes to redevelop this site (off Brackenbury Rd) from 11 light-industrial units to 52 dwellings and 11 commercial units. In conjunction with nearby residents the Brackenbury Residents Association has arranged a Public Meeting on Wednesday, 7 January at Brackenbury School. See attachment for further details.

If the Council accepts the planning application the redevelopment will have significant effects on you if you live in Brackenbury Rd (or Brackenbury Gardens, Carthew Villas, Benbow Rd and Coulter Rd west), Dalling Rd, Cressy Court or Goldhawk Rd. Increases in traffic and parking stress will ripple further afield along Cardross St, Carthew Rd, Iffley Rd, Nasmyth St, Tabor Rd, Wellesley Avenue and Wingate Road.

This is a big development. Come to the Public Meeting at 7.30pm to hear all about it; and meet London and Newcastle and visit the exhibition beforehand at 6.00pm.

Rubbish/waste collection
The Council informs us that this is changing in our area to Wednesdays from 2 February.

Garden waste service
You may recall that we requested your views on the continuance of the white sack garden refuse collection service, following a letter from the Council setting out three options: stopping collecting, booking a service or continuing existing service with reduced subsidy. We received some responses but they were not conclusive. Some members have already submitted their responses directly to the Council. If you wish to do so then go to www.citizenspace.com/local/lbhf; you can view other residents' responses which may be helpful in formulating your own.
