Christmas tree recycling details can be found on the Council's website.
Recycling your cards
The Woodland Trust is once again running its annual Christmas
card recycling campaign, which last year collected nearly 60 million cards. To
take part, simply drop your used cards into special bins in branches of Marks
and Spencer, T K Maxx and WH Smith throughout January. The cards will be
collected and recycled into newspapers, paper towels and writing paper, and the
Woodland Trust will plant 12,000 new trees.

Goldhawk Industrial Estate - planning decision postponed
(Posted30/7/09)
We had expected that the proposal to redevelop the Goldhawk Industrial Estate would be heard at the next Planning Applications Committee (PAC) on 5 August. A couple of days ago, however, we heard that the Environment Agency had renewed its objection to the application so that the developer, London & Newcastle, could supply more information on flooding. We're making enquiries and representations. If you would like to be on our Goldhawk emailing list for further details, just get in touch. We also have a site on Facebook - just write 'Goldhawk' in the Search box - great visuals. And on Wednesday, 5 August why not join us at the Town Hall at 7.00pm for the PAC meeting (sans the Goldhawk estate proposal)? Sooner or later developments affect us all - just as well to see Council decision-making in operation.
Goldhawk Industrial Estate, the planning
committee and Patrick Clarkson QC
On 5 August, 7.00pm onwards at
the Town Hall the fate of the Goldhawk Industrial Estate off Brackenbury Rd will
be decided. At the Planning Applications Committee (PAC) meeting we will hear if
enterprises such as Innocent Smoothies may continue, or will London and
Newcastle get permission to raze the lot and cram in an office block and
residential accommodation? To discover what the planning officer says in his
report this coming Tuesday (28th), click on
http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/Directory/Council_and_Democracy/Decisions_meetings_and_agendas/Other_Committees/68510_Other_Committees.asp
. Then click on Planning Applications Committee and go to 5 August which will be
highlighted by Tuesday. In there we should find the agenda and other documents,
including the officer's recommendation for the Goldhawk Industrial Estate
application. But it's not up to him to decide to pass or refuse the application
- that's the job of councillors on the PAC.
From past experience we know that officers advise the PAC to accept an
application because not to do so would invite an appeal from the developer. With
this in mind residents and the Soundhouse on the estate have instructed Patrick
Clarkson QC to examine the officer's report to the PAC. Mr Clarkson is a top
planning barrister who acted for the Council - and won - in the Allied Carpets
appeal.
Join us on 5 August at the Town Hall.

Goldhawk Industrial Estate update
Keep in touch with the Goldhawk
Industrial Estate redevelopment through our regular emails. Last Saturday a
Gazette photographer took our photos by the entrance to the estate (thanks to
the 20 plus people who came along), a delegation is meeting Cllr Greenhalgh and
our Ravenscourt Park councillors tomorrow, and on Wednesday you're invited to
attend Council Questions at the Town Hall, 7.00pm in the public gallery of the
Council chamber (be there at 6.45pm); three residents local to the Goldhawk
estate will be asking questions. If you'd like to be added to our Goldhawk
emailing list just let me know. We've also got a Goldhawk group on
Facebook. Come along, see what's on offer and join up. We should have some
new visuals very soon, produced for the meeting with councillors tomorrow.
Rubbish and recycling bags
From next week, the rubbish collectors
will pick up orange recycling bags if easily visible from WITHIN your premises
at street level. Put the bags out, say the Council, from 9.00pm the night before
and before 6.00am the morning of collection. Rubbish will not be collected from
basements. The contract requires the rubbish collectors to return bins to the
property, with the bin lid replaced. Please report missed collections, or non
bin/bin lid replacement, to cleaner.greener@lbhf.gov.uk as this will help to
implement the contract effectively.
For clarification (says the Council) black bag rubbish has always been collected
from frontages as well as street pavements. When the orange bag system was
introduced, residents were asked to present them on the pavement to aid
collection. Since all residents are now assumed to be participating, the rubbish
collectors will collect from your premises.
Xmas Tree Recycling 5th - 16th Jan 09
LBHF will again be recycling Christmas trees this year and will also be collecting them from the kerbside as well as 4 designated drop off points. To see more details see the LBHF Website.

If you live in the vicinity of the Goldhawk
Industrial Estate you may have seen a flyer pop through your letterbox just
before Christmas, announcing a public meeting this coming Wednesday, 7
January.
And here are the details: Goldhawk

London and Newcastle proposes to redevelop the site
from 11 light-industrial units to 52 dwellings and 11 commercial units. See the
developer’s application
HERE.
This may affect YOU if you live in -
…
BRACKENBURY ROAD or nearby - extra traffic, parking stress and noise;
…
DALLING ROAD or CRESSY COURT - loss of privacy and noise, extra
traffic;
… GOLDHAWK ROAD - security, light, intrusion and loss of
privacy.
It is also concerning
that the building works are so close to Brackenbury School. How, for
example, to pile drive an underground carpark so that neither the school nor
residents are unduly disturbed? There are security and privacy matters
also.
All are welcome to the Public Meeting on 7
January - hear about this development - ask questions. Even if you
think it won't affect you the ripple-out effect of increased traffic and parking
demand will go much wider than the immediate area.
We've started a group
on Facebook. Called Goldhawk Industrial Estate Redevelopment
Ha! it's at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=42160945966&ref=nf. You don't have to be signed up to Facebook to see it, but if you want
to contribute it's easy to do. Why not click through and have a look
at comments made by residents, photographs of the estate, mock-up of the
4-storey block as seen from Goldhawk Road and an architect's drawing of the
proposed housing as viewed from Dalling
Rd. Also a pic of the site for four proposed 'mews houses' on Vinery
Way - thus creating the perfect bottleneck along the service
road.

Public Meeting
London and Newcastle proposes to redevelop this site
(off Brackenbury Rd) from 11 light-industrial units to 52 dwellings and 11
commercial units. In conjunction with nearby residents the Brackenbury Residents
Association has arranged a Public Meeting on Wednesday,
7 January at Brackenbury School. See attachment for further
details.
If the Council accepts the planning application the
redevelopment will have significant effects on you if you live in Brackenbury Rd
(or Brackenbury Gardens, Carthew Villas, Benbow Rd and Coulter Rd west), Dalling
Rd, Cressy Court or Goldhawk Rd. Increases in traffic and parking stress will
ripple further afield along Cardross St, Carthew Rd, Iffley Rd, Nasmyth St,
Tabor Rd, Wellesley Avenue and Wingate Road.
This is a big development.
Come to the Public Meeting at 7.30pm to hear all about it; and meet London and
Newcastle and visit the exhibition beforehand at 6.00pm.

service
You may recall that we requested your views on the
continuance of the white sack garden refuse collection service, following a
letter from the Council setting out three options: stopping collecting, booking
a service or continuing existing service with reduced subsidy. We received some
responses but they were not conclusive. Some members have already submitted
their responses directly to the Council. If you wish to do so then go to
www.citizenspace.com/local/lbhf; you can view other residents' responses which
may be helpful in formulating your own.

This association will be considering what further action, if any, it will take.
In the meantime there are posters to remove from trees and telegraph posts.
We fully intend to remove all posters but it would greatly aid our task if
you would safely remove a poster near your home and dispose of it.
I would personally like to thank all those who wrote letters, put up
posters, delivered leaflets, gave advice and support, asked questions and
attended the meeting this evening. Without you this development would have
gone through almost unnoticed.
With best wishes,
Rosemary

Under new garden waste collections the Council
will collect garden waste in
white sacks on Mondays (instead of Saturdays) from 2 April. You will need to
register with the Council by calling tel. 0208 753 1100 or by going online
at
http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/gardenwaste from 28 March 07.
Registration costs £6 and enables the council to deliver sacks directly to a
resident’s door rather than gardeners having to collect them.
If you have any white sacks left over from last year they can still be used,
but you will need to register so the Council knows where to pick up your
garden waste.

Q&A
If you have any questions on issues not covered on the AGM agenda, it would be helpful to have them in advance so the committee can provide you with a considered response.
As our guest speaker this year we are delighted to have
Brackenbury resident, Adrian Chiles, who will give us his wry observations on
living in the area.
He is a familiar face on BBC television and radio, presenting a broad spectrum of sport and business programmes such as “Working Lunch" on BBC2 every weekday and “Chiles on Saturday” on BBC Radio Five Live. Currently in Germany presenting “World Cup Match of the Day” every evening on BBC1, we are delighted to welcome him to the AGM.

Dalling Road
Kim Whatmore, local resident and garden designer, is opening her
garden in Dalling Road under the National Gardens Scheme. Admission £2 plus home-made
teas.
Kim's garden, though small - as are all our gardens in Brackenbury - is a little
gem with its three 'rooms' and bower at the end. It's stuffed full of plants and
any gardener will enjoy visiting it and gaining inspiration for their own plot.
This is the only garden in Brackenbury to open under the National Gardens Scheme
(profits to charity) - and well worth a visit on 18 June.
This year's New Year Social was held on Tuesday, 21 February at Godolphin & Latymer School from 7pm until 9:30pm
The local Hammersmith TV relay transmitter is off the air. Apparently there was a fire at the site yesterday and currently there is no BBC1, BBC2, ITV & Channel 4 available. They are putting in a new power cable in today and hope to have it finished before this evening.
Note that this will only affect you if you normally don't receive Channel 5. If you look at satellite (Sky), Freeview or direct from Crystal Palace then you will not be affected. (You can tell if you look at Hammersmith relay if your aerial has it's 'fins' vertically aligned rather than horizontally.) An example can be seen here.

Local licensing applications could allow local bars and restaurants to open until the early hours of the morning in the Brackenbury area..
The council website shows these applications at the Grove bar in Hammersmith Grove, The Thatched House in Dalling Road and Tree House People (formerly the Duke of York's ), Attwood Road & The Brackenbury Arms (Top Brackenbury Road).
These can all be found here on the Council web site
The Grove (page 38), The Thatched House (Page 7) and the Duke of York (appears not to have applied just yet)
and the Brackenbury Arms here (Page 7)
(Update 31/7/05- Application for
late-night licence by the Grove Bar refused
Cllr Michael Cartwright wrote:
Many representations were received. These included representations from the
police, environmental protection, health and safety and many residents,
including Brackenbury Residents Association.
The hearing for this application took place on 25 July 2005 and after the
licensing committee heard the representations from all of the relevant parties
and information from the applicant they decided to refuse the variation that had
been applied for. Therefore the Grove has not been granted an extension of their
hours and has only been permitted what they currently have.)
(Update 16th August - Thatched House
Following a residents' meeting yesterday with the licensee and Young's
representative at the Thatched House (chaired by Cllr Chris Allen), I've been
asked to send a brief summary to members.
An amended licence proposal by the Thatched House is as follows: sell alcohol
10am to midnight and 10am to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays plus half an hour
drinking-up time. Entertainment to finish half an hour before stopping serving
alcohol. Up to 12 events a year (subject to police permission) for an extra
hour. All activity in the garden to cease at 11pm.
An entertainment licence has also been applied for - to include amplified music.
However, as with other venues, the soundproofing requirements are strict. No
noise must reach the boundaries of neighbouring premises.
Cllr Allen said that 28 objections had been received to the application by the
Thatched House. The date for receipt of objections has now past. Those who had
written to the Council about this application will be notified of the hearing.
The date for this has not been set but will be about the third week of
September.
Sixteen residents attended yesterday's meeting and, despite the amended
proposals by the Thatched House, there was continuing strong objection to an
extension of existing hours for reasons of noise and general disorder. There was
considerable disquiet about amplified music and the clientele it would attract.
These views were made known to the meeting.
BRA's webmaster has had confirmation from LBHF that the Green Waste Collections will start again on 28th May 2005 then every Saturday until 3rd December.

The Annual General Meeting will be held at the Grove Neighbourhood Centre in Bradmore Park Rd on Tuesday 21st June 2005 and will start at 7 p.m. and will finish at 9 p.m.
We will have our usual order of business and elect Committee members as well as review the activities of the Association over the last 12 months.
In particular we are to consider changing the Rules to allow residents outside the Brackenbury area to become members. The following wording is proposed ‘By restricting the percentage of members resident outside the area’, with the percentage being 5% of total membership. Associate members (with no voting rights) outside the area are also to be admissible.
These changes are to be made to Rule 3 and the appropriate wording will be presented at the Meeting for members to vote on.
We are delighted to announce our guest speaker this year is Commander Heather Valentine from the local Metropolitan Police. She will be giving us updates as to the progress she has made with crime initiatives and the implementation of the Safer Neighbourhood Teams in the area.
See the planning page for latest news.
Social Evening (added 24/2/05)
The Brackenbury Residents Association social took place at the Godolphin & Latymer School in Iffley Road on Tuesday 22nd February 2005.
It was really well attended and we had about 70 people there. Great atmosphere - everyone was really chatty, friendly and very supportive.
Lots of people were really interested to hear about this web-site So if you have any further ideas please let us know via our contacts form.
Brackenbury Post Office (added 1/2/05)
BRA has been notified that the Sub Post Office in Brackenbury Road will finally close for good on 14th February 2005. Despite the apparent intentions to consult with the users the Royal Mail didn't consult with BRA.
